Satin Perfection BB Cream
Finally it’s here. The first silicone free clean BB cream in the world and what I mean by ‘clean’, is that it does not contain any silicone, synthetic colourants and the usual skin-unfriendly ingredients commonly found and used in beauty.
What are BB creams and why are they are so popular?
BB Creams have been around for a few years and is often called a blemish balm or a beauty balm depending on the brand. One thing that I have noticed and it’s not entirely a cardinal rule, but brands that have a strong focus on make-up tend to be more coverage rather than ‘fix’ the problem where as brands that focus more on skin functionality tend to repair and correct skin but with a little bit of coverage.
The first BB cream was created back in the 60s by a German dermatologist, Dr Christine Schrammek, to help protect her patients’ skin after surgery. In 1985 it went massive in S.Korea and Japan where it lost its true identity and became more of cosmetic product. BB creams became increasingly popular when celebrities started to endorse them.
REN wanted to go back to the original idea of BB creams and to create the first multi-function clean BB cream in the market without using the usual suspect of ingredients like silicone and other non skin beneficial ingredients to improve how skin works and also to improve the health of the skin. Why Satin Perfection BB Cream? What is it? What does it do?
A silicone free Beauty Balm cream that leaves the skin looking flawless, even toned and luminous with a perfect non-oily, satin finish. This true multi-function cream provides flawless coverage that banishes imperfections, gives SPF and anti-oxidant protection while photo-rejuvenation technology offers a toning, firming, anti-ageing effect.
Perfects. Natural mineral pigments offer a lightweight coverage, which adjusts to most skin tones. Soft focus Silica and light reflective Mica (minerals) optically blurs imperfections to give a natural sheen. Zinc Oxide to absorb and control excess oil.
Firms and tones. Noni Photo-Rejuvenation technology harnesses UV light and changes it into beneficial red light clinically proven to boost elastin synthesis for a firmer and more defined facial contour. You will notice on the packaging that the UVA has a circle around it. This shows that it blocks UVA because at REN we see the A as ageing. We still need the sun and Vitamin D for a healthy skin metabolism and we get this from UVB. Most would say B for burning or bronzing, REN calls it benefits. In vivo studies show an increase of elastin greater than 50% when Noni extract is topically applied on skin exposed to UV light.
Illuminates and revitalizes. Vitamin C and Magnesium bring energy levels up for a healthy luminous complexion from within.
Protects. Provides a mineral UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection (SPF 15) and repairs UV damage to prevent premature ageing and contains environmental and urban protecting anti-oxidants.
It terms of coverage the best way I can describe it is: “no make-up make-up” but more importantly it allows the skin to breathe while still giving you that confidence of wearing make-up. A few of my friends use it as a base and continue with a blush or bronzer over.
Adaptive Colour Technology
The mineral base coverage works perfectly on fair to olive tones, including Oriental skin tones. It works by using colour adaptive technology and on first pump you might get a shock by how dark the colour is when it first comes out the bottle. Don’t panic it blends evenly and effortlessly to disguise and hide imperfections and correct colour tone. The best way I find working with this product is to pump a bit onto the back of your hand and to pat starting from the T-Zone working outwards.
Now for the big question. Do you use a moisturiser with a BB cream?
I can’t speak for the others, but when I tried this BB cream in winter when my skin was more on the drier side. I needed a bit more moisture as I found this product to be very matte and just a little tight. In summer I am usually more combination and used it on its own and it was amazing and it did everything it said it would. Brilliant!!!
For a long time I was confusing BB creams and Tinted Moisturers. The big difference is that BB creams are meant to work with the skin to improve texture, tone and to protect the skin, where as tinted moisturisers are ‘basic’ moisturisers that contain an element of foundation and SPF.
